Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
If we are looking for possible scenarios how about this one.

Arsenal beat Norwich, Man City draw at Southampton and Man Utd pick up 3 points from their next 2 games (Leicester h & Norwich a). If we could win our next 2 games then this would be the position :

Arsenal 36-67
Man City 36- 65
W Ham 36-62
Man Utd 36-62

In their 37th matches Arsenal play Man City and we play Man Utd of course.

Do I think it will happen... probably not but it gave me something to do for a few minutes. Would make things interesting though wouldn't it.

yep
i wasn't puting in the scenario of the cup.
Even though I hate the fact that Manu got away with beating us I couldn't stand the fact that Palace might win the Cup and qualify for EL at group stage.
We finish 5th,where we should at least finish,by beating Manu convincingly .
Then I don't care if Liverpool finish above them.
If Liverpool and Man City both win their cup finals then 4th drop into EL,could be Arsenal.....more than likely to be us this year..

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
I haven't quite given up on 4th but it needs Arsenal to lose at City and at home to Norwich which is highly unlikely (but not impossible!!).

Beat Man Utd and we should come 5th which would be superb and a fitting reward for a great season... with the added bonus that we would go straight into the EL group stages.

So sixth looks a decent outcome. I'd so fucking love fifth but sixth would be an amazing season.

I'm not contemplating anything lower than sixth!

6th might be enough for Group stage, if Man U win the Cup and finish 5th and Liverpool don't win Europa League for instance.

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
If we finish 6 we enter EL at the 3 QF Round which are 28/7 and 4/8. So we may have some other "warm up games".
Finishing 5th means we don't enter until the Group Stage on the 15/9 and the 29/9.

In a way the earlier EL games will be great warm up games but with the threat of a tricky opponent and getting eliminated.

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
More accurate breakdown than the one talksport did.

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/10253604/champions-league-and-europa-league-qualification-for-premier-league-teams-explained?

The relevant parts:

Fourth:

Will qualify for the Champions League play-off unless Man City and Liverpool win the Champions League and Europa League respectively and finish outside of the top four. Or Man City finish fourth and win the Champions League.

Fifth:

Will qualify for the Europa League group stage unless Man City finish fifth and win the Champions League

Sixth:

Will qualify for Europa League third qualifying round if Man City finish in top four or win Champions League

Seventh:

Will qualify for Europa League qualifiers if Manchester United win the FA Cup and finish in the top six and Man City finish in the top five

Eighth:

Will qualify for Europa League qualifiers if Liverpool win the Europa League and finish seventh, and Manchester United win the FA Cup and finish in the top six, and Manchester City qualify for the Champions League

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
I reckon we're capable of winning all of our remaining matches.

Only need 4 more points to reach 60 - something we've not done since 1986!

Even when we finished 5th in '99; I think that we only needed 58 points (or something like that).

It's been a fine season - such a shame it's not going to end in an FA Cup win and a Champions League spot as both looked very much on just a few weeks ago.

If we only win 1 of our last 4, we aren't going to finish top 6. I'd be willing to bet that any day. So one of your predictions is going to have to go, mate.

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
That would be a no then

We can have a bet if you want, that we'll win more than one of our last 4?

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot

Blimey, bit of an over reaction there.

We're on our longest unbeaten run in 30 years, we've finally got a fully fit squad, we've beaten pretty much all the top teams away and but for some poor refereeing decisions we'd already be in the top 4.

Do you not think that amybe, just maybe, it's a little bit negative to think that, considering three of our next four are against poor sides with nothing to play for, we'll only win one of them?

We can agree to disagree though without your blood pressure rising.

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
Do you think everyone in life should be a simple optimist like you, placing bets on us to finish top 4? Respect other peoples (realistic) opinions without patronising them, you fucking chump.

Grow up, you silly cunt.

Go back to October and you'll find a post that says I think we will finish top 6 and I still think we will, but not above the Mancs. Stupid fucking cunt.

Don't need a crystal ball. Apart from us they have Norwich, Leicester and Bournemouth. I doubt we will even beat WBA or Stoke. Swansea maybe the only game we win now. Let's keep it real, we won't finish above them.

I see Chelsea could have a lot of say in the top , as they still have spurs , Liverpool and Leicester to play .

From talksport but there might be an error in there.

Someone tell me if I reading this wrong.

"How could five Premier League clubs qualify for the Champions League?
If Liverpool win the Europa League and finish outside of the top four in the Premier League."

While that is true, the actual regulations say

"3.08 Exceptionally, an association may be represented by five clubs in the competition if the UEFA Champions League and/or UEFA Europa League titleholder does not also qualify through its domestic championship"

So not just Liverpool (ie the possible EL winner); it also could be City (the possible CL winner.) Notice the "and/or" in the regulations.

Which means their answer to the next question is more directly wrong

"Is it possible that fourth place in the Premier League won't provide a place in the final Champions League qualifying round?

"Yes. If Manchester City win the Champions League and finish fourth in the Premier League, they would qualify directly for the Champions League group stage, as holders, and no Premier League clubs will take part in the qualifying round. If City win the Champions League but finish outside the Premier League top four, City will qualify for the Champions League as holders and the fourth place team from the Premier League will qualify for the Europa League."

Does it not say in the regulation above that there can be five if City win the CL and finish outside the top 4?

We would finish above Man U though, so we'd almost certainly get a place

No.

as liverpool have a game in hand.

I thought Everton would do better than they did they let us down .

If we win all our games we'll be in Europe anyway.
